“Never
hunt what you can't kill.”
From
childhood tomboy to female ring Tarzan straight to center
of the squared circle of UPW; such is the unusual but
undeniable path to success that has brought rookie
standout Erica Porter to rapid prominence here in the
thick of the SoCal wrestling wilds.
Starting
out as a kid bitten with the wrestling bug, (“My folks
hated it but my brother and I would still watch it anyway
when they weren’t around”), this fiery Guatemalan-born
wrestling phenom remembers being “a great kid till
around 12 when I became very, very rebellious and
independent.” Such
devotion to self-imposed excellence was reflected early in
a banner childhood dance career, and through her teen and
early adulthood in a pursuit of eventual Olympic Gold in
gymnastics.
While
college saw Erica continue her life successes with a dual
major in biology and dance; it was a stroke of fate that
made her decide to abandon her academic pursuits and
instead focus her future onto the uncharted world of
sports entertainment.
“I happened to be friends with Albert, who had
just been signed with WWF and watching him on Raw and
Smackdown brought me back to a more active interest in the
sport.” Encouraged
by him and other friends to try out pro wrestling herself,
she soon was auditioning for and cast on the TV series,
Women of Wrestling, as Jungle Girl, which she feels
perfectly fit her already developed acrobatic skills, as
well as her real-life Latin-American background.
Now one
of the top contenders in the ever-growing UPW women’s
division, Erica continues to improve and those skills will
serve her well as she swings into action against any and
all of the top ladies that our matchmakers dare to place
in her path.
