Comments:
There’s
one word to describe blue-chip UPW prospect Shane
Roberts and that’s “impressive.” From his
powerful, chiseled look to the intense fervor constantly
burning in his eyes, it is clear that something special
and untapped lies here ready to burst forward at any
moment.
And
it’s no surprise because this Island native raised
here in California has made excellence a goal of his
life; although the road at first was indeed a rocky one.
Yet Shane turned those obstacles into opportunities as
he battled back from being the tall lanky always
picked-on loner kid to a highly accomplished, if often
aggressive high school sports achiever. A standout in
both football and volleyball, it was the purchase of his
first set of weights that helped turn his life around
towards self-confidence and success; as he soon signed
up at his local gym and pursued his first life dream:
bodybuilding; quickly bulking up and winning a number of
teen competitions.
With confidence building, bolstered too by a
longtime study and mastery of various forms of martial
arts from the Hawaiian lima-lama karate to tae kwon do
and Brazilian jui-jitsu, it was, however, a seed planted
in his mind by workout buddy (and Ultimate Pro “Big
Time” alumni) Hank Hill, that was to later germinate
into his current mat effort.
“Hank
had told me years ago that he thought I’d be good as a
wrestler and I didn’t really consider it seriously
till I was ready to drop a technical data security
career I had been working at and really dedicate myself
to it.” At first he did an intense internet search and
was set to head off for No-Cal’s APW school, that is;
until he came upon his local Huntington Beach Ultimate
University alternative and realized that Hank was indeed
a past trainee there as well.
Now
another huge Tom Howard / Ballards success story, Shane
is getting ready to impress Galaxy audiences just as he
has impressed those who see him go through his weekly
paces at the Raw Center. Currently studying acting as
well as pro wrestling, Roberts sees his sports
entertainment dream as a perfect blending of athleticism
and stage performance and his solemn pledge to emulate
his WWF idol, The Rock by presenting his own form of
in-ring charisma and squared-circle electricity seems
well on its way to firm accomplishment.

FACTS:
--Shane
attributes high school sports to helping him channel his
anger at being the object of ridicule in younger years.
“My biggest claim to fame as a volleyball player was
when I busted three fingers on a guy’s hand on a
spike. He tried to block my ball and I basically
thrust
it through his hand.” As a football player, “I was
on the frontline rush and in a few cases halfbacks on
the opposing team would move out of the way because they
were plain afraid of me.”
--After
college, Shane served as a bouncer for a number of
leading Orange County clubs as well as a
driver/bodyguard for exotic dancers. “I was the guy in
the car with the two-way radio or the one who would come
inside to the bachelor parties and sit off in the corner
with a scowl to keep the guys in line.”
---Roberts
spent three years as a network engineer, (including a
job at Boeing encrypting and protecting sensitive
computer data), but gave it all up when he decided that
he would rather be in the gym and in the wrestling ring
than behind a desk “for 15 hours a day.”
--He
did some light modeling and commercial work for local
merchants on cable television in the mid 90s including
one spot for the Cigar Room, where “I was shown
puffing away on a cigar.” He was also featured in a
number of print ads.
