Remembering
that his earliest childhood days were spent athletically
divided between a budding high school baseball career
and an unquenchable thirst to become a pro grappler,
Donovan Morgan explains that he and his then teenage
buddies even went so far as engaging in some backyard
wrestling of their own; but it was, as is usual with
this master matman, with a unique twist. "We weren't
like a lot of other kids who would just take crazy bumps
for the heck of it. Instead, we stuck to the technical
side of it all along; trying to see how psychology is
put together in matches."
Such
a desire to view the total sport, rather than just its
component parts, impressed his first wrestling teachers,
and is now impressing critics throughout the sports
entertainment world as they watch his creativity explode
forth with unconventional but convincing success. Having
been brought to worldwide awareness via his appearance
in the acclaimed "Beyond the Mat" documentary
last year, Morgan now brings his own Northern California
style to our own So-Cal shores, hoping to demonstrate
not only that his version of ring acumen is equally,
if not more, effective but that our talent here can
even learn some new techniques and moves that will ultimately
improve their own UPW performance.
