Comments:
He is
tough and menacing; a total package of power and
precision; although much of his So Cal indy time was
spent as a crowd favorite.
For San Diegan born Tony Drake, known to his fans
as Big Babi Slymm, his current run in UPW promises to
pit him against the very top talent in our fed.
As
always a big kid who self-described as on the chubby
side, all that changed when he got to high school and
became a defensive tackle and discus and track standout.
A pro wrestling fan all his life, though, his
desire to become part of sports entertainment began to
dominate his consciousness early, and when as a
teenager, he saw longtime favorite Shawn Michaels
“come down the zipline” at Wrestlemania during his
classic encounter with Brett Hart, that passion was
ignited big-time.
When a
friend with a Bakersfield promotion invited him to train
and begin competing, he began what was to become an off
again, mostly on again involvement with a variety of
local federations.
Learning the ropes from some of the best teachers
around, including from our own past superstar, B-Boy,
and wrestling other UPW’ers like Alcatraz and “Scrap
Iron”Adam Pearce, Slymm has now made his way into our
promotion where his larger than life presence is sure to
stir up any temporarily still waters that may yet remain
undisturbed.
“My
goal is to capture nothing less than the top UPW
gold,” he asserts confidently, and looking at what
assets; both physical and strategic, he brings to every
one of his matches
that promise is anything but mere braggadocio.
