UPW and Zero One "Fighting Athlete"

In June 2001 Ultimate Pro Wrestling entered into a talent exchange agreement with Zero One Pro Wrestling. Zero One was started by acclaimed Japanese grappler Shinya Hashimoto and features some of the nations top wrestling superstars. In addition to Pro Wrestling, Zero One is a open meeting ground where all martial arts and combat styles are encouraged to compete. On June 2001 three off UPW's finest where invited to compete in Zero One's "Shingeki" (Loosely translated to "Shoot") PPV in Osaka, at the Osaka Castle Hall. UPW's Samoa Joe and Keiji Sakoda competed in a tag Match vs. Battleart's Yuki Ishikawa and Katsumi Usuda, while Tom Howard faced the promotion founder Shinya Hashimoto in Singles competition.

UPW's "early" appearances at Zero-One:

10/8/01

UPW was involved in ZERO ONE's "Shingeki" PPV at the Tokyo Budokan. Tom Howard defeated Lee Young Gun with a Triangle Choke and Slyvester "The Predator" Terkay teamed with MMA fighter Mark Kerr to face Yoshiake Fujiwara and Shinya Hashimoto in the main event.

Following the PPV Tom Howard and Slyvester The Predator Terkay teamed up to face Shinya Hashimoto and Yoshiake Fujiwara at Kurokuen hall

Samoa Joe and Horshu began participation in Zero One Burning heart tournament at Kurokuen the same night. Horshu defeated Big Japans Daisuke Sekimoto and picked up default win at the beginning of the tournament to have him 2nd in points of A Block. Samoa Joe defeated George Takano (The Cobra) and Masato Tanaka to tie in points for Block B's finals spot but did not advance due to bracketing. The Tournament spanned 3 shows taking place at Kurokuen Hall, Zepp Tokyo and Differ Ariake.

 

Also at Zepp Tokyo UPW's Urban Outlaws debuted for Zero One taking on Tom Howard and Slyvester terkay. The Outlaws fought hard but eventually succumb to the famed double blockbuster and a Silent Death neck twist by Tom Howard.

8/13/01

UPW will be sending Tom Howard, and Slyvester Terkey to Zero One's "Shingeki 2" PPV on August 30th 2001. Slyvester is expected to resurrect his former U.F.O. Vader gimmick he debuted in a short stint with Inoki's UFO (Universal Fighting-Arts Organization) fighting promotion and face off in a tag match vs. Two of Zero One's top superstars. Slyvesters tag team partner has yet to be announced but it is heavily rumored that Tom Howard will fill this role.

Zero One has announced a tour spanning 2 weeks and five dates starting September 1st to the 15. *They have announced a 10-person, two-block (5 each) singles league that would run over 5 shows. Ohtani announced that himself, Alexander Otsuka, Masato Tanaka, Sean & Justin McCully, Samoa Joe, Yuki Ishikawa, Kazunari Murakami, Kohei Sato, & Mr. X (presumably Daisuke Sekimoto) would take part in the tournament/league. The venues:

9/1 Tokyo, Korakuenm Hall
9/8 Tokyo, Zepp Tokyo
9/9 Tokyo, Korakuen Hall
9/14 Tokyo, Differ Ariake
9/15 Tokyo, Differ Ariake*

In addition to Samoa Joe on this tour and competing in the "Burning Heart Tournament", UPW's Horshu will also be on this tour.
