The shows were originally named “Lite” to differentiate
from UPW’s regularly scheduled “Entertainment Overload”
extravaganzas, which have set the standard for
“independent” Talent and Production. The Lite Shows were
intended to be --and still are!-- just the opposite: NO
production, no microphones, no music, just good,
hard-hitting, up-close wrestling.
The Lite Shows have evolved over the past couple of
years. They now fulfill several objectives:
1. Preparing matches for our UPW Entertainment Overload
shows.
2. Preparing dark matches for the WWE.
3. Trying out new gimmicks for existing UPW talent and
debuting students.
4. Taking a look at talent for the first time, for
consideration for their greater inclusion in UPW.
Past fulfilling these objectives, the Lite Shows have
become known throughout the independent circuit as the
single best “class” taught in pro wrestling today. Head
UPW Writer Marty Valenza makes the matches for the Lite
Shows. During each match, Ultimate University Head
Instructor Tom Howard takes detailed notes. After each
show, Tom, often with the participation of Rick Bassman
and Christopher Daniels, assemble all the wrestlers in one
room and critique each match in a play-by-play fashion.
Bruce Prichard, William Regal and Rob Van Dam have
traveled to UU to participate in these sessions.
The entire evening has come to be recognized as one of the
best participation and learning opportunities in the
business today! |
